The following is a list of ailments commonly treated by acupuncture. Many other conditions respond to acupuncture treatments, so if what you would like to work on something that is not on this list, let me know and I will be glad to go over it with you!

Allergies
: Whether it is treating the acute cases of allergies or preventing the severity of them in the long run, acupuncture has long been effective. Studies have shown that the application of regular acupuncture sessions can improve one's immune responses making them less vulnerable to allergies. In acute cases, acupuncture is used to open up the blocked sinuses, as well as resolve the phlegm and dampness which are blocking the facial orifices.

Anxiety/Mood Disorder: Mood disorders have long been treated by acupuncture, particularly by those who do not favor a prolonged pharmaceutical intervention. Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) looks at the symptoms of mood disorders (overthinking, worrying, strong emotional reactions, racing heart, lack of interest in activities, etc) as imbalances in the body; through the strategic application of acupuncture needles, we are able to correct these imbalances, and alleviate the problems.

Arthritis: The pain associated with arthritis generally responds very well to acupuncture, and its adjunct therapy moxabustion. While it will not reconfigure the bone structure or anatomy, acupuncture can improve the flow of energy through the affected joints, and lessen any pain and inflammation. This results in improved function of the joints, making day to day tasks easier.

Asthma: Difficulties with breathing are frequently treated by acupuncture. Treatments lessen coughing and wheezing by redirecting the qi in your lungs downwards, in its natural direction. Treatments can also be used to circulate the qi in the entire chest region which alleviates chest tightness.

Chronic Pain: In TCM, chronic pain refers to a prolonged condition  in which the qi in the body is not behaving as it should be. Any imbalance in the flow of energy, whether there be excess energy or not enough, or if the channels have become too hot or cold, etc, will over time result in a chronic condition, if not treated. Acupuncture  helps to alleviate chronic pain by identifying these imbalances and correcting them.

Common Cold: In the early stages of a cold, the illness is still towards the outside of your body; in these scenarios, acupuncture will work in a way to vent the illness so it can exit your body quickly, much like lifting the pot off a tea kettle releases the steam. Once the cold becomes more internal, acupuncture can be used to correct the imbalances caused by the cold;  these include: stopping cough, resolving phlegm production, reducing fever, soothing the throat, etc.

Digestive Complaints: Digestion, and how we absorb our food to make energy, is one of the most important functions of our bodies. Even the slightest offset: bloating, gas, reflux, diarrhea, constipation, borborygmi, etc, indicate that there is some issue which should be addressed. TCM will identify these imbalances and correct them via acupuncture, so we can have a healthy digestive system and therefore better energy.

Dizziness/Vertigo: There are many different ways that dizziness and vertigo can arise in the body, It can be an acute onset, in which case we would provide treatments focusing on removing the disorder before it becomes internalized. It can also arise from a blood deficiency (the TCM version of anemia), which acupuncture can treat by tonifying and replenishing the blood. It can also be the result of various upward surges of energy, which acupuncture can work to sedate.

Fatigue: Sometimes our bodies are run down from overwork, stress, or constantly being on the go, and acupuncture can help by building back up energy, calming the mind, and benefiting sleep so we are well rested.

Fertility/Pregnancy: Acupuncture can be used to  both prepare a woman's body for pregnancy, and maintain the pregnancy. We can identify what systems need a boost in order to have a healthy pregnancy. It can help calm morning sickness, lower back pain, mental-emotional issues, ankle swelling and much more.

Headaches/Migraines: In TCM, there are several different classes of headaches and migraines. They can be sharp, dull or "just pressure", and are also classified by where on the head they are located. We take all of these factors and more into consideration when treating each patient; this allows the treatment to be customized for each individual, which leads to the best results.

Insomnia: The key to a healthy body starts with a good night's sleep. Acupuncture can improve many aspects of sleep quality including making it easier to fall asleep and stay sleep, lessen tossing and turning, and makes you feel more rested in the morning.

Low Back Pain:  Much like the treatments of arthritis and chronic pain, low back pain is a disorder of imbalances. By identifying these imbalances and correcting them, low back pain can be a thing of the past. It can eliminate pain and lessen strain on the joints, allowing for more freedom of movement and the ability for people to do what they want pain free.

Stress: As we go through our daily lives stress tends to take a toll on the body, building up in the muscles and mind. Whether it is turning the mind off, or freeing the tension caused by the stress resting in the muscles, acupuncture works wonders. Many often note that regular acupuncture sessions, make stress more manageable, so it doesn't reach a point where it is negatively affecting our day to day lives.

Women's Health: I have covered fertility and pregnancy above, but acupuncture works well for other areas of women's health too. It can lessen the uncomfortable symptoms associated with PMS, including those severe symptoms associated with things like PCOS and endometriosis. It can also regulate menstruation. Acupuncture is also a common treatment for menopausal symptoms such as mood changes, hot flashes, and night sweats.
